A healthy smile shouldn’t cost the Earth: work towards a free sustainability award for your practice
In 2023, nearly 200 dental practices across the UK took part in the new Green Impact Dentistry programme, in order to take positive action for sustainability, and encourage behaviour change within their practice and communities.
Following a successful nationwide launch in 2023, the programme will now continue in 2024, hoping to grow its reach and impact across the sector. You can register your practice now for free to work towards a Green Impact award and help to create more just and sustainable dental care.
Green Impact is an excellent way to get involved, start somewhere, or increase your ongoing sustainability efforts and advocate for action within your practice. Participating staff can also develop new skills and make a real impact within their role. The programme helps to structure and strengthen your practice’s sustainability work and social value, and you can work towards an award to demonstrate your commitment to sustainability at a local and national level.
The actions within the Green Impact toolkit have been co-designed by sustainability and dentistry experts. The research-led actions cover different areas of dentistry care and a range of important themes such as water, waste, education & engagement, communicating sustainability, health & wellbeing and travel. The programme is run by the education charity SOS-UK, who also run successful sustainability programmes in general practice, hospitals, and other sectors including education and cultural heritage.
Any dental practice in Northern Ireland, Scotland or England can register and take part for free. Please contact gidentistry@sos-uk.org, including your practice name and location, to register your practice.
