Volunteers needed to provide care for people experiencing homelessness in Northern Ireland

Dentaid The Dental Charity, is seeking volunteers for an exciting new project providing outreach dental care for people experiencing homelessness in Northern Ireland.

The clinics will be delivered on a new charity dental unit that will be visiting hostels and projects run by The Simon Community in Coleraine, Armagh, Lisburn and Belfast.

Volunteer dentists and nurses will be providing pain relieving treatments, emergency care and oral health advice and assessments for people who are rough sleeping or vulnerably housed.

The clinics will take place in the week of 11 November 2024 and 10 March 2025. Dentaid is seeking dentists for clinics in Coleraine on 11 November, Lisburn on 12 November and Armagh on 13 November and dentists and dental nurses for the clinics in March. They will be working alongside staff from Dentaid The Dental Charity to provide life-changing care for vulnerable people at risk of homelessness and harm.

The project has been generously supported by The Bupa Foundation and follows the success of previous clinics for people supported by The Simon Community last year. “

We are delighted to be returning to Northern Ireland,” said Andy Evans, chief executive of Dentaid The Dental Charity. “These clinics are for people who face a huge number of emotional, physical and practical barriers to accessing dental care.

“But we need volunteers to help us achieve this and would be incredibly grateful if dental professionals would consider donating their skills and time to help the most vulnerable members of their community access outreach dental care.”
