Practitioners are “burying their heads in the sand”

Dr Niall Jennings gives his views on the dental recession

New, younger, highly-motivated practitioners are frustrated and want to be principals themselves, but a lot of the older generation of practitioners are burying their heads in the sand in relation to expanding and modernising their practices and services; with the result that the older practitioner is making his practice less “saleable” to the younger practitioner.

“So the younger practitioner, fed up waiting for a suitable established practice to come on the market, decides to go out and do his own thing. But, he doesn’t know where to start.

“These days, the number of established practices sold is almost on a par with the number of new start-ups.”
